Abstract

There were two poets who had the same pen name - Vehbi, in Divan Literature. The fırst one of them who had lived between the years 1674- 1736 was Seyyid Vehbi and the second one who lived between the years 1718 - 1809 was Sünbülzade Vehbi. Both poets worked as "kadı"s in different towns. When Seyyid Vehbi was the "kadı" in Halep, Sünbülzade Vehbi's father- Raşid Efendi was the assistant of the "kadı". Seyyid Vehbi wanted Sünbülzade's father to give his son his name when he learnt that Raşid Efendi had a new-born son. Therefore a second name, Vehbi was added to his name- Mehmet. Sünbülzade Vehbi became the "kadı" in Manisa 76 years after Seyyid Vehbi. Seyyid Vehbi wrote a ghazal (in couplets) ina deep yearning for Manisa, and then Sünbülzade Vehbi arranged it as tahmis (in fıve verses) by adding ghazal 3 verses more. This paper is the interpretation of these two poems.
