Abstract

A book index is an indispensable tool that addresses a specific word’s location and frequency in a book, technical report or manual. Therefore one of the most used and investigated parts of academic publishing is an index. It is important to prepare a good index to serve researcher for saving their time and endeavor when publishing a new paper or book. An index should contain all of the word inside the text and allow readers to access necessary information easily. However index preparation is a tedious and time-consuming task. This paper proposes a novel solution for preparing index to overcome these difficulties. This solution implemented a computer program is called dİZici. We will represent this program’s features and usages also try to show the contribution of this program to the index preparation process. dİZici’s main distinguishing features are indexing statements without adding extra format information to the indexed document and having opportunity to evaluate of each statement’s meaning separately. dİZici is validated and verified in the preparation process of a comprehensive doctoral thesis. As a result of that the new system has proved useful and effective in producing indexes for books and other documents which include complex transcription alphabets.
