Abstract

Akif’s poetry, besides having a genuine/wise style and along with the acknowledgment of its achievement in displaying, describing and analyzing the social disruption and problems, was underestimated by many poets especially in the early years of his death since his poetry was considered to be simple, too close to prose and too clear. The style, esthetic understanding and technique of the poet, as well as his subjects, were significant and decisive in this underestimation. However, Âkif was a poet who attained his major achievement based on these elements criticized and he also realized what he aimed at. In the framework of the discussions about “implicit poetry, pure poetry, obscurity and ambiguity in poetry, damages of prose elements to poetry”, this paper aims to shed light on the clarity of Akif’s poetry. In the title of this paper, the word “clarity”, instead of “radiance” (or splendidness), is preferred consciously. While radiance sometimes refers to delicacy, fragility, splendor, and sometimes being esthetical, “clarity”, on the other hand, includes sincerity, modesty and renunciation.
