The international community faced with non-international armed conflicts that threaten international peace and security in recent years more frequently. Hundreds of thousands civilians were forced to leave their homes and many of them were either killed or injured as a result of non-international armed conflicts in 1990s. The international community has been in search of a solution for such situations to provide security and humanitarian aid to civilians at risk. In this regard, safety zones may be one of the most effective measures available to the international community to alleviate human suffering in current conflict countries. The article scrutinizes past examples of safety zones and includes legal analysis of such zones.Downloads
